Chinese Oil Painter Dalu Zhao Opens His Virgin Show at Trevor-Victor-Harvey Gallery in Sydney.
…Good oil painters in China are numerous, but Dalu Zhao stands out with his solid academic training, his penchant for romanticism, his acute observation on nicety and his strength in expressing his subject matters with accuracy.
Dalu blends Chinese philosophy with western aesthetics. Mixing oriental subject matters, mystic ambience, Chinese calligraphies and the folded screen layout with classic western oil painting techniques, his works of nudes, portraits, landscapes and still life catch people’s eyes without efforts.
Winner of People’s Choice, 2003 Archibald Prize, Dalu’s portrait of Mr. Stephen Fitzgerald – first Australian ambassador to China and the portrait of Mr. John Clark – Stage Life, selected by 2004 Archibald Prize, Also the portrait “Art Student” entered the finalist of Doug Moran Portrait Prize 2004,brought fresh breeze from the Northern hemisphere.
Settled down in his Sydney home at San Souci, Dalu has set his eyes on Australian subjects. Dalu said that he loved Australia. The open land and the sea air has extended his vision and stretched his lunges. Winning the People’s Choice of an Archibald, Dalu thanked Australia for its openness to recognize his talents.
Dalu Zhao’s oil paintings show will be held at Trevor-Victor-Harvey Gallery, Seaforth, in May. This is his first in Sydney anddefinitely not the last. We wish Dalu good luck and success.
